4 Common Digestive Problems and What to Do About Them

Believing that swallowing air and releasing it will relieve the discomfort of these disorders, this person may unintentionally develop a habitual cycle of belching and discomfort. Frequently, the pain continues or worsens, leading the person to believe he or she has a serious disorder. An extreme example of this is Meganblase syndrome, which causes chronic belching.

Finally, eating a lot of fatty food can delay stomach emptying and cause bloating and discomfort, but not necessarily too much gas. If indigestion is caused by a disease or medical condition, the prognosis is varied and dependent upon the resolution of that condition. Some conditions such as ulcers, GERD, and gastritis respond readily to medications.

Unfortunately my Gastroenterologist refused to accept the possibility saying that scientific studies didn’t support it. Many of the medical community are doing such a disservice to people.

A small tube with a camera on the end is placed into one of the incisions to look inside. The surgical tools are put through the other incisions. The surgeon looks at a video screen to see the stomach and other organs. The top part of the stomach is wrapped around the esophagus.

The reverse also can be true – attempting to release gas may trigger acid reflux. Belching both during and after meals to release air when the stomach is full is normal. However, some people belch frequently and swallow too much air, releasing it before it enters the stomach. Many people mistakenly believe that belching will relieve the symptoms of acid reflux, but they may be doing more harm than good.

acid reflux cause burping

If this does not make any difference and the excessive burping is still affecting their quality of life, a person should speak to a doctor in case aerophagia or supragastric belching is responsible for this symptom. Different forms of therapy may help reduce both of these conditions. Conversely, supragastic belching occurs when the esophagus immediately releases the air before a person swallows it and it enters the stomach.

However, after I told him my symptoms and what I have done, he said the test is unnecessary since I have already proven that it is low stomach acid. He gave me enzymes and said to keep taking the HCL, which I have been doing after every meal as required. I think the low stomach acid hypothesis may be explained by a hernia disrupting normal digestion in the stomach…large meals or distended stomachs may be too dilute to cope with that amount of food.

When IAP increases, it pushes against the lower esophagealsphincter (LES). When the LES opens because of the pressure and even a microscopic amount of acid touches the inside of your esophagus it can produce large amounts of pain and burning. This is because the esophagus is not protected like the stomach from high acid levels.
